Custodian/Maintenance Job Description

The part-time custodian/maintenance position at Schmaling Memorial Public Library requires an average of 3-6 hours per week, dependent on the level of cleaning and/or maintenance work required. Hours are flexible but must be performed during the library’s closed hours. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds and be able to climb and perform work from a ladder. Custodial duties include but are not limited to:

·         Vacuuming rugs and carpets

·         Dusting

·         Mopping of hard floors

·         Periodic window washing (indoor and outdoor)

·         Emptying trash/recycling receptacles

·         Restroom cleaning

Maintenance duties include but are not limited to:

·         Changing lightbulbs

·         Maintaining landscaping (weeding, mulching, trimming hedges and/or trees, planting as needed)

·         Changing furnace filters

·         Light plumbing

·         Hanging and/or moving shelves and furniture

·         Light painting

·         Mowing

·         Snow Removal

·         Keeping the director apprised of any larger-scale maintenance issues that may arise
