Tips and Tricks
1. Guardian or at least one child registering must hold a valid Schmaling Library Card in good standing to register for Schmaling Summer Reading Programs! All River Bend Students are eligible to get a Schmaling Library Card. Unity Christian Students without Schmaling Library Cards need to be registered for the summer reading program by library staff. Please visit the library to be registered. Library cards are only issued in-person. Please visit the library and have a photo ID (parent) and proof of address ready in order to apply for a library card. Those living outside the Fulton City Limits may or may not be eligible to apply for a non-resident library card for a fee. Please inquire at the library. If you have a library card from another public library, please inquire at your local library about their summer reading program.
2. If more than one person in the family (including the parent) is registering for the summer reading program, set up a family account (IF YOU PARTICIPATED LAST YEAR, YOU WILL STILL HAVE A READSQUARED ACCOUNT. JUST LOGIN, SET UP ANY ADDITIONAL CHILDREN, AND ENROLL IN THE APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS):
a. Choose register Myself + Other Readers. Family account has to be led with a PARENT account, so put in YOUR age when prompted. If the parent does not wish to or is not eligible to participate in the Adult Reading Program, you still need to have an account. Set up the account and enroll in 2026 Summer Reading Non-Participating Parent of Family Account, if you do not wish to or are not eligible to enroll in the adult reading program.
b. If you wish to and are eligible to participate in the Adult Reading Program, choose 2026 Adult Unearth a Story. Adults must have their own valid Schmaling Library Card to participate in the Adult Reading Program. You may not use a child’s card. Choose the 2026 Summer Reading Non-Participating Parent of Family Account if you do not wish to or are not eligible to participate in the Adult Reading Program. If you are not eligible to participate in the Adult Program and you sign up for it, you will be removed and reassigned to the 2026 Summer Reading Non-Participating Parent of Family Account.
c. Once the parent account is set up, follow the prompts to enroll each child.
3. If only one person in the family is enrolling in the summer reading program, just set up one account. Choose Myself Only and set up the account for whomever is registering.
4. You will be required to read and acknowledge Terms of Use , aka Program Rules for each program enrolled as part of the registration process. If you need a reminder of the rules for each program, these are located on the left hand side of the screen if using the website or may be found by tapping Explore and the Custom Links in the app. Failure to follow the rules of the programs may result in expulsion from the program.
5. Children in the Toddler, Elementary, and 6th-12th grade programs are only required to log minutes. However, if you have a family account and the Parent is enrolled in the Adult Reading Program, ReadSquared will require a book title and author field to be filled in even with children’s minute logging. If you want to fill in a title and author, that’s fine. Otherwise, just type any character into each field and it will accept it. You can also scan the ISBN barcode from the back of the book.
